How to Reconsent a Taxpayer

Reset your link and resend it to your client

Updated this week

Why would you want to gather consent again on a taxpayer?

  • You have lost IRS access to update records.

  • There was an error in your original request. For example, you realize you used the name "Jen" instead of "Jennifer" or you now want to collect their ID and selfie.

  • You want to change which consent link you send them - maybe the new link includes a partner organization.

  • The IRS denied the original request.

Reset an individual taxpayer's consent

  1. Open the taxpayer details page.

  2. Scroll down and click Scope (next to "Allow signing via consent link").

  3. Click Reset request (for new signature).

  4. Make edits, then click Save details.

  5. Copy and send your consent link to your client so they can electronically sign the new request. Your consent link can be found at the top right of your TaxStatus page.

  6. Once your client signs the new consent, a new order will be submitted to the IRS.
